Getting Started

Throw my stained, torn tallis

            over my head;

Drink in my own breath,

            with the old sweat and the prayers.

Hurry deep below—

            --grow still for a moment.

Then burst back into the light

            and the sweet fresh air.

Cast a glance around the room:

            Who’s here today?
